Early diagnosis is key to effective treatment. At Rochelle Community Hospital, our Imaging & Radiology Department combines advanced technology, experienced staff, and convenient scheduling—all close to home.

A Bone Density (DEXA) scan measures bone strength and helps diagnose osteoporosis before a fracture occurs. The test most commonly evaluates the spine, hip, and forearm.
Why it’s important

• Identifies fracture risk early
• Monitors osteoporosis treatment
• Helps guide preventative care

Preparation: Please wear comfortable clothing with no metal.
Note: Due to insurance guidelines, DEXA exams are typically covered once every two years and one day.

CT scans create detailed cross-sectional images of bones and soft tissues, helping providers diagnose and monitor a wide range of conditions.

CTA scans use contrast to provide detailed views of blood vessels and are often used to:

• Assess arteries and veins
• Evaluate heart structure and function
• Identify vascular abnormalities

X-rays are quick, painless exams. Radiation exposure is minimal, and the benefits typically far outweigh the risks. If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, please notify your provider.

Discontinuation of patient shielding for X-ray exams

• In order to provide the highest quality diagnostic exams at the lowest health risk, we will no longer place shields over patients during their X-ray exam.

• This change in practice is based on many years of research which have shown that levels of radiation used in modern x-ray exams are so low that the risk of harm is very small or zero. These studies conclude that shields have no added benefit for patient safety.

• Studies have also shown that shielding patients carries the risk of using more radiation than not shielding and could cover a body part that the doctor needs to see.

• For patient safety, experts on X-ray radiation agree that patient shield should not be used.

Please note: Patients with pacemakers cannot undergo MRI exams.

A Nuclear Cardiac Scan uses a small amount of radioactive tracer to assess blood flow to the heart muscle. When combined with a stress test, it helps detect:

• Areas of reduced blood flow
• Coronary artery disease
• Heart muscle damage

Nuclear Medicine helps diagnose and monitor conditions such as cancer, heart disease, infection, and arthritis using safe, low levels of radioactive material.

Safety note: Radiation exposure is comparable to—or less than—many standard imaging tests.

Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images of internal organs and structures. It is commonly used to evaluate:

• Abdominal and pelvic conditions
• Blood clots
• Gallbladder disease
• Pregnancy and fetal health

Ultrasound exams are safe, painless, and radiation-free.
