Our Anesthesia Services
Anesthesia provides freedom from pain and anxiety during medical procedures. At RCH, anesthesia is administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist who works closely with your care team to determine the safest and most effective approach for you.
Your anesthesia care includes:
- A pre-procedure consultation to review your medical history, medications, and questions
- Continuous monitoring of vital functions throughout your procedure
- Post-procedure care and guidance to support a safe recovery
Types of Anesthesia
Your anesthesiologist will recommend the best option based on your procedure, health history, and individual needs.
- General Anesthesia
You are fully asleep and pain-free during the procedure - Regional Anesthesia
Numbs a specific area of the body, such as spinal or epidural anesthesia - Local Anesthesia
Numbs a small, targeted area for minor procedures
Conscious Sedation
Conscious sedation helps reduce pain and anxiety while allowing you to remain relaxed and responsive. It is commonly used for minor surgeries and diagnostic procedures, including endoscopy, biopsies, and minor orthopedic or outpatient procedures.
At RCH:
- Sedation is administered and monitored by qualified anesthesia professionals
- Advanced monitoring equipment tracks your breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels
- Patients typically experience quick recovery and receive clear instructions for aftercare
You will need someone to drive you home and should avoid important decisions for 24 hours after sedation.
Your Role in a Safe Experience
Please follow all pre-procedure instructions carefully, including guidelines for food, beverages, and medications. Be sure to share any allergies, supplements, or concerns with your anesthesia provider — your openness helps keep you safe.
