Congratulations to Ronny Alvarez, RCH Medical Laboratory Scientist, for receiving our second quarter Pillar of Excellence Award!

This quarterly award recognizes employees who display positive behaviors and characteristics as defined in our Dare to Soar standards, values and RCH mission. Employees receiving this award demonstrate these behaviors and characteristics on a consistent basis. Selection for this award recognizes these employees for their outstanding commitment and demonstration of concern, respect, and professionalism.

The Pillar of Excellence Award is a step above the typical ’employee of the month’ model of recognition. In order to receive this award, employees are nominated by a co-worker that fills out a nomination form that must fully illustrate how the employee demonstrates EXCELLENCE IN EACH CATEGORY of our Dare to Soar values. The application that meets the standards of the application as well as the award is chosen by our Employer of Choice team.

See below for Ronny’s full nomination.

Commitment

“Ronny has a way of adapting and ability to learn from setbacks that occur in the lab. What I mean is when something goes wrong or breaks, he is calm, cool, and collected. When a service tech comes out to work on machines, he is right there learning what they are doing and as a result he is able to fix the machine the next time it happens. He doesn’t wait for someone to fix the problem he goes above and beyond in trying to do it for himself before bringing in someone from outside the hospital. Ronny is someone I know I can come to when I’m having a problem and without judgement he will help me and show me how to fix it. He is patient and will go over things as many times as he needs so you understand what it is were trying to do.”

Leadership

“Your ability to motivate, inspire, and build a high-performing team is truly commendable. I have been here a little over a year and Ronny is a coworker some would dream of working with. He never complains about what he is asked to do and always comes in with a smile on his face. If you’re having a bad day, he is the first one to ask if everything is okay and tries to make the day go smooth. He is always lending a hand to students that come in for internships and is one of the most patient people I’ve worked with. Ronny pushes everyone to their fullest potential.”

Professionalism

“Ronny is an easy-going person. I think he makes us all better in some way. We may be struggling but he makes it all seem so simple, whatever the problem is personal or professional it could always be worse. He comes to work and is always a happy person to be around. Ronny always has your back for example, if a doctor calls and is upset Ronny will take over the phone call like a professional acknowledging the problem and does what he can to fix it.”

Teamwork

“Ronny is a team player. It takes a village to run the lab it’s not just any one person. For example, when he works in chemistry he bounces back and forth and helps everyone he somehow always knows what’s going on. If someone is busy doing blood bank and can’t get to a urine drug screen he will jump over and take care of it without hesitation. He never complains about pitching in. He voluntarily helps me personally when I can’t figure out how to put in an order. Working in the lab as you can imagine there are many expensive machines. That being said, when I first started, I was always concerned I would break something. If something’s makes a funny noise, I will give a Ronny a look like “help me I don’t know what I did” he would smile and reassure me that I didn’t break it and it was a simple fix.”

Communication

“It’s not easy asking for help at least for me personally, if Ronny is , can’t find something he is someone who isn’t afraid to ask for help. If someone can’t get to lunch, he will cover them so they can. He is one of the most easygoing people I have met. A hard person not to get along with. He is always polite using please and thank you no matter how busy or behind he gets.”

Ownership

“Things change/processes change, Ronny goes with the flow and shows the rest of us what to do differently. Ronny is positive and is someone who will encourage the rest of us to do better. There are many ways to do things to get the same end result and he is good at not only showing you those different ways but also listening when you found a new way to do something.”

Innovation

“The first thing that comes to my head is the song ” bob the builder can we fix it”. At least once a week he is trying to figure out a problem. His problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking have led to significant improvements in our processes.”

Excellence

“Ronny is one of the most positive people at work. If it’s a busy day or things aren’t going our way, he looks at the positive side. He handles everything thrown at him calm, cool, and collective. Mind you it’s not always an easy thing to do. He is someone I look up to. I know i can come to him with a problem or to vent and he will listen.  I know my wording isn’t perfect writing was never really my strong suite. In general, what I’m trying to say is work wouldn’t be the same without Ronny. He goes above and beyond when he is here. Always shows up to work and works even when he has his own personal things going on. He is the first to ask someone if they are okay. He is smart, good sense of humor, and an all-around good person. He goes out of his way to help others. He is an extremely good teacher slows things down to the person’s level. Never makes you feel like your dumb. He communicates well if he needs help or is struggling with something. Not everyone is capable or would even volunteer to help fix something when it goes down. Ronny is usually the first one over and participates in fixing the problem. He does things without expecting something in return. He is a handworker. He is a one-of-a-kind employee/coworker and deserves to be recognized for all his hard work.”
